Sustainable Community & the Environment

A sustainable community goes beyond economic growth and development to include a responsible approach to safeguarding our environment including clean water, clean air, our safe and well maintained green spaces, state-of-the-art waste disposal at the landfill site and sewage treatment plant.

As Councillor I will continue protecting our environment by making it easier for our citizens to participate in the diversion of recycling products to our land fill site. We are still below many other cities and there is no reason why Thunder Bay cannot do it as well and increase our recycling program participation.

Other key areas of my sustainable community program include becoming a "Smart City" through the expansion of hot zones across the city (including parks) where people can use their laptops, and ensuring that high-speed access is available to all including rural areas of the city and surrounding communities.

Another area of key interest to many or our fellow citizens is the progressive growth of the arts and culture including a film industry in our city. I have already worked diligently in this regard by initiating a business plan review for taking advantage of the great opportunities present in this new sector of our economy.
